The Den, located in a surprisingly quiet, unassuming part of Central Harlem, is a place of dichotomies: upon entering the seemingly-tranquil building, you are greeted with a certain revelry, as patrons feast on the delicious food, imbibe the potent drinks and instinctively move their shoulders to whatever the DJ is spinning.

 

The modern speakeasy décor belies the simple entryway and any preconceived notions you had prior to walking through the doorway. The menu pushes the boundaries of traditional Southern cuisine, re-imagining such staples as macaroni and cheese and fried chicken in daring, creative ways. The music is as varied as the customer base, satisfying Harlemites, both old and new. Jazz gives way to smooth R&B, to Neo-soul over to hip hop-tinged offerings. The drinks, on the other hand, sound as powerful as they are. Enjoy.
